Panic Attack

Common symptoms of Panic Attacks

June 07, 20233 min read

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are two different conditions that share many symptoms. In both cases hypnosis is a powerful solution to allow deeply buried thoughts and phobias to be released in a gentle way.

Panic attacks are sudden and intense feelings of fear or discomfort that can last for several minutes. They often come without warning and can be triggered by a specific situation or object. Anxiety attacks, on the other hand, are a more gradual build-up of feelings of fear or worry that can last for hours or even days.

The symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety attacks can be physical, emotional, and cognitive. Here are some of the most common symptoms:

Physical Symptoms

  • Rapid heartbeat

  • Sweating

  • Shaking or trembling

  • Shortness of breath or feeling like you can't catch your breath

  • Chest pain or tightness

  • Nausea or stomach upset

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Hot flashes or chills

These physical symptoms can be very intense and can make you feel like you're having a heart attack or other serious medical emergency. It's important to remember that while these symptoms are uncomfortable, they are not life-threatening.

Emotional Symptoms

  • Fear or terror

  • Worry or apprehension

  • Feeling out of control

  • Feeling disconnected from reality

  • Feeling like you're going to die

These emotional symptoms can be just as intense as the physical symptoms and can make you feel like you're losing your mind. It's important to remember that these feelings are a normal response to a stressful situation and will pass.

Cognitive Symptoms

  • Racing thoughts

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling like you're in a fog

  • Negative self-talk

  • Catastrophic thinking (e.g., "I'm going to die," "I'm never going to get better")

These cognitive symptoms can make it difficult to function in your daily life and can make it hard to focus on anything other than your anxiety.

It's important to note that not everyone experiences all of these symptoms during a panic attack or anxiety attack. Some people may only experience a few of these symptoms, while others may experience all of them.

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to talk to your doctor or a mental health professional. They can help you identify what you're experiencing and develop a treatment plan that works for you.

Treatment for panic attacks and anxiety attacks may include medication, therapy, or a combination of both. In hypnotherapy I generally use and teach many techniques so that even when not with me you will have the tools to cope. These may include bilateral eye stimulation, EFT and breathing techniques.

In addition to medication and therapy, there are also lifestyle changes you can make to help manage your anxiety. These include:

  • Exercise regularly

  • Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation

  • Get enough sleep

  • Avoid caffeine and other stimulants

  • Eat a healthy diet

Managing your anxiety can be challenging, but with the right treatment and support, it's possible to live a happy and fulfilling life. Remember stress is normal because life happens but anxiety is the outcome of too much stress being internalized. Managing anxiety is a process and can generally yield good results within a handful of treatments.
