Do you understand the connection between the value of a calm mind and the outcome you can achieve being in such a state?
Hypnosis is very similar to other forms of mind modulating methods. When you are in a yoga pose it is hard to think about something since all your attention is on holding the pose and breathing. When you are meditating you focus on a candle or on a breath with the goal to still the thoughts that enter the mind. Hypnosis is similar in that you enter a calm state. The magic then happens. The hypnotist directs the minds towards thoughts and outcomes that serve the client.
I worked recently with a young lady who had a stutter. As a result of having the stuttered she was bullied and very withdrawn. We first started to identify why she stuttered. I explained to her that being very bright, her brain and thoughts moved faster than her mouth. In other words, the thoughts were so fast that she could not verbalize them fast enough. The second step was to start some hypnosis for her. In hypnosis we worked primarily in the first few sessions dealing with the trauma and the bullying she had endured. In subsequent sessions, we continued to increase her sense and feelings of confidence and being super intelligent. During the sessions we would anchor in a sense of peace when she was around other people and used a three finger anchor so that her mind could slow down the ideas.
Today, a year later, her dad reports that she is happy. She has made new friends and enjoys going out and being with people. In a calm state the mind accepts all kinds of good suggestions and just for your understanding, the mind always has a built in safety mechanism that will block anything said by a hypnotist that may cause the person harm.
